Centro Historico in Estepona

Estepona’s ancient core is one of the most beautiful on the Costa del Sol, and is part of life in a typical city of Andalusia. Down cobblestone streets decorated with geraniums, you can experience the Castillo de San Luis, a fortress built by Spain’s Catholic monarchs in the late 15th century, and Plaza del Reloj (Ur). This inviting little square has a bell tower which is the last remaining part of the original church of Iglesia de los Remedios, destroyed in an earthquake in the mid 18th century. There are orange trees and the Norfolk Island pine next to a graceful iron pavilion for outdoor concerts.

The Marina of Estepona

Harbour of Estepona
Between La Rada and El Cristo is the exclusive marina of Estepona. There are a number of cafes, bars and restaurants that give the marina a social atmosphere in the evenings. During the day you can also go for a stroll and have a refreshing drink and see the marina’s lavish yachts in all its glory. If you are on a Sunday, you can also shop around the booths in the popular tourist market, located right in the harbor, which sells crafts and leather goods.

San Luis Castle in Estepona

Castillo de San Luis in Estepona
Remains of the castle built by orders of the Catholic kings in the early sixtieth century. There is little left to see of the great castle that once stood in the heart of Estepona. But it is possible to trace the ruins around the hill. You can now walk around the remaining part of the castle wall that remains. Walk down the small path through tropical gardens between the market and the castle wall, down the steps into Calle Castillo to look across the castle wall. This wall is actually a double wall mounting. Next to the market is Plaza Casa Cañada, where a small garden has been laid by the walls of the castle for visitors to be able to rest among the flowers or drink from the fountain. The existing walls date back to the 16th century.
