Marburg is located in the central German state of Hesse – at the river Lahn – and has about 80,000 inhabitants (2009). It is the country’s four major university towns. “Phillipps University” is the oldest Protestant university in the world and was founded in 1527.

The castle “Marburger Schloss” – located on a hill above the town – is perhaps the biggest tourist attraction.
