Freising is located in southeastern Germany on the River Isar, and belongs to the state of Bavaria. The city has 45,600 inhabitants (2008), and is just 32 km north of Munich.

Freising has a historic center of the Middle Ages, which also Marienplatz Square. Mariensäule from 1674 is one of the attractions on Marienplatz – high monument of the Virgin Mary, made of red marble. This square is also popular to visit because of its pleasant markets.

Freising is famous for the two hills that dominate the landscape – Weihenstephan and Domberg (“Cathedral Hill”).

In the western outskirts of the city lies a former monastery complex – Weihenstephan – which houses one of the oldest breweries (from 1040). Visitors can get a guided tour of the brewery, and the place also has a nice restaurant.

Domberg – or Cathedral Hill – has several historic tourist attractions. Here is the cathedral (also called St. Maria und St. Korbinian Cathedral) from 1160 century, which was rebuilt in Baroque style in 1723.
