Aarhus short guide

Aarhus is Denmark’s second largest city – and the biggest of Jutland. The population of the town itself is ca. 240,000 (2009) – while Århus municipality has a total population of just over 300,000. The town lies at the Aarhus Bay on the east coast of Jutland and is the economic and administrative center of Region Midtjylland.

Aarhus received township in 1441, but its history stretches back to Viking times.

The town has a variety of nightlife and more popular shopping areas – and among the many sights can be mentioned Friluftsmuseet The Old Town (where you can experience Danish urban skyline back to the 1500s), Moesgård prehistoric museum (including the famous, over 2000 years “Grauballe-manden”), ARoS Aarhus Art Museum and Marselisborg Slot (royal family’s summer residence). For the kids will probably Tivoli Friheden and Dyrehaven be highlights.

Aarhus Airport is located in the suburb Tirstrup, just north of town.
