Royal Palace (Palacio Real) is one of the most popular attractions in Madrid. The castle is a magnificent creation that was commissioned by Philip V, who gave the assignment to draw it to the Italian architects Giambattista Sacchetti and Francesco Sabatina. It was built between 1738 – 1764 according to plans by the Italian architects Giambattista Sacchetti and Francesco Sabatina. Today’s castle was built to replace the Alcázar castle from the Middle Ages, which burned down in 1734. Construction began in 1738 and ended 26 years later in 1764 under the regime of Carlos III.

Palaceo Real is a Renaissance building in the Italian baroque style, built in granite. The castle is 140 meters long and contains the entire 2800 rooms. Approximately 50 rooms open to the public and here you can see the imposing mansions as well as exhibits of royal armor. The castle was last used as a home for the royals in 1931, so today most of the rooms are open to the public. The rooms that are closed to the public is used to government activities.

The cathedral is 104 meters long, 76 meters wide and has a huge dome.
